A simple weeknight meal ...........
Toor Daal/ Arhar dal/ Pigeon pea: 1 cup, washed and pressure cooked - keep aside.
For tempering: heat ghee/clarified butter, add
Mustard: 1 tsp
Cumin: 1/2 tsp
Split green chili:1
Curry leaves: 1-2
Freshly ground black pepper (8-10)
Asafoetida ( pinch).
Add the tempering also called tadka to the daal along with salt, turmeric and bring to a boil, Remove from heat and add the juice of half a lemon .Garnish with cilantro and serve with hot white rice and ghee.
