This week I have some flowers from my garden. I just love color, nature is the best artist and teacher.  I often get the question of color in food photography. I use a lot of color in my images, I take the clue from nature. Intense colors usually draw your eyes to them, one needs to use them with care. A red napkin with a bowl of soup might make or break the image. My personal style is to blended the muted neutrals with bold. For me it is a lot about blending than showcasing a contrast, every one has their own unique style of how and what colors they use. I tend to be draw to warm pigments.

You can see in these images, some of the colors just blend and others the contrast dictates the artistic expression. It was a great exercise for me to learn about color  and how I can use it in food photography. I think the most important aspect of any artistic expression is ‘not to be afraid’. To break the boundaries to create room to think, experiment and grow. It is challenging and exuberating at the same time.

One can also learn from other medium like water color, pastel or oil. I have a couple of boards on Pinterest dedicated to art. Do have a look.
