Hurry !! had to get out of the house before it got too warm...wanted to go and visit a new nursery that we had just learnt about. Quick 2 min breakfast was what we were thinking ..got some rava out of the pantry and within no time there was hot breakfast on the table, lapped it up and we were out of the door...!!
Ingredients: serves 2
Upma Rava (cream of wheat): 1 cup
Water: 2 cups
Oil: 3-4 tbsp
Mustard seed: 1 tsp
Urad- daal: 1tsp
Chana- daal: 1 tsp
Green Chili: 3-4 finely chopped
Ginger: 1/2 inch finely chopped
Curry leaves: 2-3
Cilantro: handful -finely chopped
Juice of a lime
Salt: to taste
In a pan dry roast rava (cream of wheat) till is a creamy golden in color and u can smell the aroma. we usually roast our rava and store it in an air tight container. It helps when one is in a hurry.
In a pan heat oil, add mustard when it begins to do the splatter dance add chana daal, urad daal till they both turn golden brown add green chili, ginger curry leaves roast for a min and add salt and water ...bring to a boil. Lower the flame, slowly pour in the roasted rava into the hot water and stir till it is nice and smooth add the juice of a like and cilantro and serve hot! Make sure the upma is free of any lumps....as that really ruins the flavor of upma. Keep the umpa covered when it is really hot for a min or two and then stirring it well, really helps if the upma has become lumpy...!! A tiny dollop of ghee....makes it divinely delicious!!
This is a very comforting and quick breakfast.. Beautiful click.
