Just the other night we were having a family discussion about love. I was telling ‘ Finally Teen’ that 90% of our relationships are not just about love. It is about understanding, mutual respect and a lot, lot more. You have to invest yourself in a relationship, try and give more than you receive. You cannot be selfish, then there is only one person in the relationship and that is yourself. However, if there is disrespect and toxicity, you have to learn to let go. Even if it is not love, but just a friendship, you should never accept anyone being disrespectful and/or overtly critical, that is not friendship, it is something else. Life is beautiful and there is no greater joy than to spend it with people we love and respect and it’s reciprocated.

One does not need February 14 to show love, right ?  I am not up in arms opposing it, I love celebrations, it gives me a reason to cook something special for my loved one. So I asked my special someone, what he wanted for  Valentine’s day and to my surprise he said wontons. If wontons are the way to his heart, wontons it will be. I made these very cute heart shaped ones and filled them up with banana, pineapple and coconut.  Am not sure what am cooking for dinner, maybe this, street food is an all time favorite in this household and of course these heart cuties for dessert.

Wonton wrappers

2 cups all purpose flour
1 egg
3/4 tsp salt
1/4 − 1/2 cup water
oil to deep fry

Sift the flour, mix the egg, add the salt, pour the water and form a soft pliable dough. Make sure it sits for 30- 60 minutes, before you start rolling, so all the gluten is stable and working well. Recipe from here

For the Cranberry n cherry sauce

1/4 cup cranberries fresh or frozen
1/2 cup cherries - pitted : fresh or frozen
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp butter
1 tsp vanilla extract or 1/2 tsp cinnamon ( I used cinnamon )
2 tbsp orange juice or a bit more

In a sauce pan mix all the ingredients and bring to a boil. Let it cool, blend to a smooth consistency, not too watery. You could also make my spicy cranberry sauce recipe here

Filling
1 banana finely diced
1/2 cup pineapple diced
3 tbsp desiccated coconut
 mix and keep aside

You could make the wontons ahead of time and cover it with a muslin wet cloth. Don’t keep the filled ones for too long as it might become soggy, I kept mine for about a couple of hours and it was fine. Fry just before serving.

Roll out the dough as thin as you can. or if you have a pasta maker, use the thinest setting, with help of a cutter, cut out the hearts, place the filling inside one heart and close with the other, seal the edges. Cover with damp cloth. when you have at least 6 −10 ready, heat the oil and fry them on medium flame, flame to high, it will not be crisp, flame too low and it will be soggy.

Sprinkle with powdered sugar and cinnamon powder mix. Serve with sauce when hot, with some vanilla ice cream (optional)

Hope you guys have a wonderful day with your special someone, here is a recipe of super cute mini  black forest heart shaped cakes from last year, in case you want to bake something dark and sinful ;)
