My most memorable cup of coffee!

I can't believe there was a time when I had a hard time finding stuff to write on the blog, now I find it so hard to cut it down. It is a long post, I have to share so much and picture heavy too.

Great news !

I moved to my own domain, so bye bye to .blogspot.
New look! what do you guys think ? love, like or hate ?
My write up about Coorg- coffee, got published on "The daily Meal" click here to read it.

It has indeed been a long day! phew!

Coorg was a memorable trip in more ways than one. I have never experienced the raw beauty of nature the way I did on this trip... almost a self revealing process. It was a feeling of complete harmony and peace within myself and the inside was in perfect balance with the outside. I have never felt so close to nature, never felt I was part of it, like I did in those two days. I can go on about this for hours, but I will let the photographs speak for themselves.

I have so many pictures, it will be hard for me to pick. Each moment the scene would change with light and clouds playing hide and seek.

One moment...
and the next....

( Above picture taken by 'finally teen' on her phone)

Turkish law in the late fourteen hundred made it legal for a woman to divorce her husband if he failed to provide her with her daily quota of coffee. Am not sure of the authenticity of this but coffee has always been a serious beverage, that you do not want to mess up with. Perfect ripened bean are  processed, dried and then roasted at perfect temperatures to give us the cup of bliss that we enjoy every morning. (In my case multiple cups of bliss)

I managed to take some pictures between the long bouts of rain, but the picture of the wet rain forest that I carry in my memories could not be captured from a lens and is truly priceless. I cannot say I did justice to the beauty of this place, you have to see it to believe it.

Pepper and other spices like cardamom and vanilla is cultivated as an intercrop with coffee, pepper vines grow on the trees which are planted to provide a natural canopy and shade for coffee. You can see in the picture tiny pepper corns.

Among all the different types of coffee I tasted there, "bella coffee" or coffee made with jaggery was indeed the best and am not sure how many cups or gallons I had, my father-in-law was my partner in crime...looking at the rain pouring, the cloud playing hide and seek to reveal the rich mountains... and a cup of coffee. What more can anyone ask for?

Before I write up the recipe for  "bella coffee", some pictures of coffee plantation. These green berries, start of as aromatic white blossoms, then ripen to a rich red before they are picked dried and processed.

And now for the bella coffee, this coffee is made from black Coorg jaggery.

For two cups :

A cup of  water and add a big ball of jaggery ( size of a lemon). Let the jaggery melt in the water, add  a cup of freshly brewed arabica coffee into the water, serve hot. Make more than two cups, a gallon should be fine, you are going to love this.

  1. I loved your new look (Congrats on the domain change btw), loved this post and all the pics and that Coffee is to die for. In kerala we use a type of jaggery called Karupatti and coffee made with that is called Karupatti Kaapi, its so healthy that I was made to drink it after my delivery as its said to be a rich source of Iron and energy. That last pic is too good.
