Spiced sweet potato

‘Finally Teen’  finds it very strange that I can walk up to strangers and talk to them. Now, am not talking to strangers all the time, but I really will not hesitate to strike a conversation, be it the Starbucks line, the shoe store or at the grocers. This is something inconceivable to ‘finally teen’ and a bit embarrassing too. Now that’s a different story that most teenager find their parents a bit weird. lol! If they do,  be glad, you are doing your job well. Am digressing, well on my last visit to the grocery store,  I saw this lady picking up banana peppers ( I hope that is what it is called), had to ask her the recipe,  and before I knew it, she rattled it off like a professional. And here it is in today’s post, a bit improvised from my end. I loved the recipe and it goes so well with some daal and rotis ( Indian flat bread). Makes me think, even I have shared recipes at the grocery store, wonder if the person made it, liked it? 



2 sweet potatoes ( medium size) skin removed, chopped into squares.
3 banana peppers deseeded and chopped into squares
2 tbsp oil
1 tsp mustard seed
1 tsp cumin seed
pinch asafetida
1 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp + more red chili flakes (optional)
1/2 tsp amchur ( dry mango powder)
handful of toasted peanuts crushed
salt to taste 
cilantro for garnish

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard, cumin, let it splatter, add the sweet potatoes and salt. When it is almost cooked add the banana peppers and close the lid till both the veggies are done. Add all the dry masala, toss, add the peanuts, garnish with cilantro and serve with rotis. You can squeeze some lime juice, really enhances the flavor.
